How to Style a Scarf: From Fashion Accessory to Everyday Essential

 The Art Of Furoshiki, Reimagined

Rooted in Japan as early as the 8th century, furoshiki is the art of using cloth to wrap, carry, and protect — a quiet practice shaped by intention and care. At its heart lies musubu — the act of tying, of connecting, of giving meaning through a simple gesture. What begins as fabric becomes something more: a vessel for movement, memory, and purpose.

In a world shaped by excess and disposability, this centuries-old practice returns with quiet relevance. Furoshiki offers a more sustainable way forward — one that embraces reuse over waste, and thoughtful design over the fleeting. It invites us to reconsider how we carry, gift, and live, with intention at every step.

Created in collaboration with illustrator Jude Chan, the City in Bloom scarf redefines this tradition for today. More than an accessory, it is designed to move with you — to be worn, wrapped, and reinterpreted — a piece that carries not just style, but purpose, in every gesture.

The scarf reimagines gift wrapping as a gesture of care and intention. Rather than disposable paper, it transforms into a reusable form of beauty — where fabric, fold, and knot become part of the gift itself. Sustainable and enduring, the scarf becomes more than wrapping — it is part of the gift, designed to be kept, reused, and reimagined.

A Gentle Frame

The neckline is where the scarf truly comes into its own — soft, expressive, and endlessly versatile.

Draped gently across the shoulders, it lends an effortless sense of ease — a quiet polish that complements everyday dressing. Worn closer to the neck, it takes on a more refined presence, framing the silhouette with a clean, structured finish that pairs beautifully with tailored pieces. For a more relaxed approach, let it fall naturally along the neckline and tie softly at the nape, creating a look that feels both modern and personal.

Whether styled with casual layers or more elevated ensembles, the scarf adapts with subtle shifts in form and movement. A simple gesture becomes a statement — fluid, considered, and uniquely your own.

The Statement Piece

The scarf moves with ease, transforming from neckwear to headscarf and beyond — a piece that balances function with quiet expression.

Worn loosely, it brings a sense of effortless movement, the print unfolding gently against the body. Paired with minimal, neutral tones, it becomes a soft focal point — subtle, yet full of character. Draped over the head, it offers a more composed, polished look, framing the face while remaining light and comfortable throughout the day.

Beyond styling, it finds its place in the everyday — tied onto a bag, it adds a touch of texture and colour, an understated detail that elevates even the simplest essentials.

Fluid and adaptable, the scarf is designed to be worn, carried, and reimagined — a small gesture that transforms the way it is seen and used.

The PAZZION X Jude Chan “City In Bloom” scarf is a gentle bloom of illustration and design — a piece that moves beyond adornment, becoming a living canvas of softness, expression, and intent.

In City in Bloom, Shanghai-based illustrator Jude Chan weaves a quiet dialogue between florals and the city. His delicate, expressive strokes soften the urban landscape, shaping it into something gentle, fluid, and thoughtfully reimagined.

Q: How did Singapore’s culture and atmosphere shape the colours and details in this collection?

"Singapore’s tropical florals — orchids, frangipani, and bougainvillea — bring a vivid sense of life, expressed through brighter, more saturated tones. Inspired by landscapes like Gardens by the Bay and the Botanic Gardens, the work reflects the city’s seamless blend of nature and urban form. Through it, I hope to capture a sense of vitality, depth, and quiet harmony."

Q: How do collaborations allow art to reach new audiences?

"To me, the meeting of illustration and brand is a quiet expansion of art itself — a way for it to move beyond its usual boundaries. Freed from the limits of traditional spaces, it enters the everyday, becoming something lived with, and in turn, reaching a broader and more diverse audience."

Q: What excites you most about working with a fashion brand as an artist?

"When illustration meets fashion, it brings quiet joy — a feeling of beauty, uplift, and connection. The most meaningful collaborations are not made for hype, but for small acts of kindness, quietly placed within each piece. And in that moment of unboxing, when eyes light up — that is the real excitement."

Q: What draws you to using colours, flowers, and natural elements in your work?

"I have always been drawn to creating works that feel light and romantic. Flowers, as a natural element, carry a sense of healing, while rich colours bring a quiet sense of joy. Through my work, I hope to offer viewers a moment of beauty and warmth."
