A guide to playing tourist on home ground

If you think our little red dot is boring, you’re not eating, drinking or exploring the right places. Take a vacation without leaving “home” with this 2-day guide to Singapore’s most instagrammable hot spots.

Did you know that at 6am every morning, a field in Ang Mo Kio comes alive with the melodies of over 400 singing doves? Or that the best kopi and kaya toast in Singapore can be found on Keong Saik street? It’s funny how we don’t feel as compelled to explore our own city like we do others. We’re so often caught up in our daily routines that we’ve become oblivious to our surroundings and the beauty Singapore has to offer. Sometimes the best sights and sounds can be found in our own backyard, we just need to open our eyes and experience them anew… like a tourist!

Rediscover Singapore and you’ll be surprised by how much there is to see and how little you know about your home ground. This 2-day itinerary will take you to hidden corners of Singapore that locals hardly make time for. Make use of this trip to learn more about Singapore’s heritage and the rich history of our forefathers. Slow down as you experience a traditional way of life, fading fast amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. Unwind and enjoy the adventure, inspiration and rejuvenation of a weekend getaway, without the stress and expense of flying overseas!

DAY 1

7AM

KEBUN BARU BIRDSINGING CLUB

The rare sight and sounds of 420 singing merbok doves, in cages elevated 20ft high in an open field, is worth the early morning start.

Location: Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, Block 159

9AM

WILDSEED

Reward yourself with brunch at this delightful café. Kick back with freshly brewed coffee, waffles and home-made cakes amidst lush green surroundings.

Location: 3 Park Lane

Style Tips:

The Leather Zip-Satchel transitions seamlessly from the work week to the weekend. Its versatility allows it to be carried on hand, or worn over the shoulder by the long strap; while the structured square body is roomy enough to hold all your belongings, and includes a zip compartment so your essentials can be easily retrieved.
Classic Strappy Heels—crafted in leather and topped off with a dainty gold buckle—add a touch of sophistication to your weekend wear.

11AM

SELETAR AEROSPACE PARK

Explore the café’s environs. The British developed this area to house a Royal Air Force Station (RAF), and the grounds have over 32 heritage colonial bungalows that once housed RAF personnel

Style Tips:

Here’s a shoe that looks good, can be easily packed and will keep you comfortable while exploring the city for hours on end. This pair of Vintage Bow Sneakers, topped with a bow, masterfully mixes a contemporary style with a vintage touch. Pick from three colours (or buy all three!) to match different looks.

TONG AH EATING HOUSE

When it comes to kopi and kaya toast, this iconic coffee house has been a go-to since 1939. Its thick brew and super crispy take on the Singapore staple has even been featured in The New York Times.
